Energy Companies Join forces in support of 2-1-1

Citizen’s Gas, the Consumers Energy Foundation and NEXUS Gas Transmission have determined that it is imperative for 2-1-1 to continue for the residents of Lenawee County. To assist with this ongoing service, Citizen’s Gas donated $10,000, the Consumers Energy Foundation and NEXUS Gas Transmission each donated $5,000 and to the United Way of Monroe/Lenawee Counties to assure that 2-1-1 is maintained in the community.

“Living and working in the community every day we know it’s important to have quick access to United Way services, said Bert Fruchey, general manager of Citizen’s Gas - a local natural gas utility owned by DTE Energy.

“For many people who we serve, 2-1-1 is a lifeline that connects people with resources that can help with energy bills or other household concerns,” said Carolyn Bloodworth, secretary/treasurer of the Consumers Energy Foundation. “We are pleased to help ensure 2-1-1 will continue to assist so many in Lenawee County.”

2-1-1 help and information services have reported that during the months of October and November assistance with utility payments remained the most requested services for the Lenawee County area. Currently there are six non-profits in Lenawee County who can help with payment of utility bills, if the funds are available. Finding these organizations is often difficult for the individual. That is why 2-1-1 is such a vital service for the community.

When United Way regionalized into Lenawee County, the continuation of the 2-1-1 services was a promise they made to the community. Several businesses and individuals have donated specifically to support this very important service.

NEXUS is proud to support the United Way and 2-1-1 program to help residents of Lenawee County said James Grech, president of NEXUS Gas Transmission LLC, a joint venture between DTE and Spectra Energy.

DTE Energy, Consumers Energy, their employees and their Foundations have historically been loyal supporters of local United Ways. This latest contribution to support 2-1-1 in Lenawee County is just another example of the commitment these companies have to the communities they serve,” said Connie L. Carroll, Executive Director of the United Way of Monroe/Lenawee Counties.
